If you’re planning a trip to Australia, you simply can’t miss visiting the Australian capital city of Canberra. Not only is it a beautiful city with a laid-back vibe, but it’s also home to some of the most fascinating heritage sites, museums, and other attractions in the country. In this blog, I’m going to take you on a virtual tour of Canberra’s top heritage sites, museums, and other must-visit places that I absolutely loved exploring.

On my first day in Canberra, I started my tour at the Australian War Memorial, one of the city’s most famous attractions. As a history buff, I was blown away by the exhibits that took me through Australia’s involvement in various wars. The interactive displays, artifacts, and artworks were heartwarming tributes to those who served and sacrificed for their country.

Afterwards, I headed to the Old Parliament House, which served as the seat of the Australian Parliament from 1927 to 1988. It was fascinating to explore the chambers and offices of past prime ministers and parliamentarians, and to participate in interactive exhibits and educational programs.

For lunch, I visited one of the city’s most popular eateries, Patissez. Known for its famous “freakshakes,” this iconic cafe is a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth. I indulged in a decadent shake and a delicious burger, which was the perfect fuel for the rest of my day.

My last stop for the day was the National Gallery of Australia, the country’s largest art museum. I was impressed by the extensive collection of Australian and international art, including works by some of the most famous artists in the world. The temporary exhibitions and events provided me with a glimpse into contemporary and indigenous art from Australia and around the world.

On my second day in Canberra, I started at the National Museum of Australia, which tells the story of Australia from its Indigenous history to its present day. The interactive exhibits and vast collection of objects, photographs, and multimedia displays helped me explore the diverse history and culture of Australia.

For lunch, I visited Akiba, a trendy and vibrant restaurant that specializes in Asian-inspired dishes and cocktails. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lively and fun, making it the perfect place to relax and recharge before my next stop to the Royal Australian Mint, which produces all of Australia’s coins. It was interesting to learn about the history of currency in the country and see the minting process in action.

To cap off my trip to Canberra, I visited Lake Burley Griffin, one of the city’s most scenic attractions. I took a leisurely walk around the lake and enjoyed the stunning views of the city and its surroundings.

I definitely recommend visiting Canberra as it is a city rich in history and culture, and its heritage sites, museums, and other attractions are a testament to that. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, I highly recommend exploring these important cultural landmarks, as well as the unique food and drink spots that Canberra has to offer.
