The rhythmic hum of the waves welcomed me to the second week of my Portuguese sojourn as I ventured further into the coastal wonders of the Algarve. With a surfboard under my arm and the anticipation of new swells, the Algarve continued to unveil its secrets.
Day 8: Lagos’s Hidden Gems
Lagos, with its enchanting blend of history and coastline, set the stage for the first day of my second week. I found myself drawn to the secluded Praia do Camilo, accessible through a winding staircase. The waves here, though gentle, held a playful energy that mirrored the hidden charm of this beach.
Post-surf, I explored the vibrant streets of Lagos, where historic architecture met a lively atmosphere. The quaint cafes and surf shops offered a glimpse into the town’s laid-back culture, a perfect complement to the day’s surf adventures.
Day 9: Sagres Revisited
Sagres beckoned me back on the ninth day, a place where the elements seemed to converge in a symphony of beauty. Cabo de São Vicente stood stoically as I paddled out to Praia da Mareta, a beach known for its consistent waves and stunning views.
As I rode the waves, the winds whispered tales of seafaring adventures, echoing the region’s rich maritime history. The evening unfolded with a breath-taking sunset over the cliffs, a reminder of the magic that Sagres held in every moment.
Day 10: Alvor’s Coastal Elegance
Alvor, with its picturesque charm, became my focus on day ten. Praia de Alvor, with its long stretch of golden sand and inviting waves, provided the canvas for another day of surf exploration. The Algarve, with its diverse surf spots, continued to offer a dynamic range of experiences.
In the afternoon, I strolled through the quaint village of Alvor, its whitewashed buildings and narrow streets exuding a timeless elegance. The local seafood delicacies, a staple of Alvor’s culinary scene, became a fitting reward for a day spent chasing waves.
Day 11: Faro’s Tranquility
Faro, the capital of the Algarve, offered a serene backdrop for the eleventh day. The tranquil waters of Ria Formosa once again embraced my surfboard as I navigated through the lagoons and salt marshes. Faro’s peaceful ambiance provided a stark contrast to the powerful waves of Sagres and the playful breaks of Lagos, creating a well-rounded surfing experience.
As the sun set over the Ria Formosa, I reflected on the diverse landscapes that the Algarve had unfolded. Each wave, each town, and each moment had added a layer to my surfing odyssey—a journey that transcended the act of riding waves, becoming an exploration of Portugal’s coastal soul.
Day 12: Farewell to the Algarve
The final day in the Algarve arrived, and with a bittersweet sentiment, I bid adieu to this surf haven. Praia da Rocha, with its expansive shoreline and energetic waves, provided a fitting farewell surf session. As I rode the waves, I felt a sense of gratitude for the Algarve’s hospitality and the countless memories etched in its sandy shores.
With the surfboard strapped to my side, I prepared for the next adventure in Portugal and will return to Nazaré.
