The next few days were all about mastering Cloud 9, Siargao’s most famous surf break. I had gotten a taste of it on my first day, but the next four days were dedicated to understanding this world-renowned spot and pushing my limits in the water.

Cloud 9 is not for the faint of heart. The powerful waves break over a shallow reef, making every ride both thrilling and nerve-wracking. The locals here are incredibly skilled, and watching them effortlessly navigate the waves was both humbling and inspiring. I spent hours in the water each day, gradually becoming more comfortable with the intensity of the break.

Mornings started early, as the best surf conditions typically happen at sunrise. Paddling out in the soft morning light, with the water calm and the waves beginning to build, was an experience in itself. Every wave felt like a new challenge, and while I had my fair share of wipeouts, the thrill of a perfect ride kept me coming back for more.

When I wasn’t in the water, I explored the island’s natural beauty. Siargao is more than just a surf destination – it’s a paradise for nature lovers. I visited the famous Magpupungko Rock Pools, a natural wonder that offers crystal-clear water and stunning rock formations. It was a perfect spot to relax and take a break from surfing.

In the evenings, I dove deeper into the island’s food scene. Filipino cuisine is diverse and rich in flavours, and I couldn’t resist trying local delicacies like lechon (roast pig) and adobo. The island’s relaxed beach bars and live music also added to the overall charm, making the days feel complete with both adventure and relaxation.

These four days spent mastering Cloud 9 and experiencing the island’s natural and cultural offerings were a perfect balance of excitement and tranquillity, setting the stage for more to come.
